Wanted: German Shepherd who will be the only pet for experienced GSD owners.

(This is an ad I’m playing with for Craig’s List)

Wanted:

  • 7 months to 1.5 years
  • Male, neutered is good, but otherwise we will do it.
  • Doesn’t need another dog around to be happy.
  • Full or mixed OK, as long as it looks mostly like a GSD.
  • It’s OK if the dog needs a little help.
  • $200 rehoming fee or less

We can, of course, compromise on all of the above, except for senior dogs.  We just went through a year long cancer death march for our last GSD and I don’t think we will sign up for anything that increases the possibility of another one of those for a while.  Every day is precious.

Offered:

  • The type of home where people say “I want to come back as your dog!”
  • Dog door attached dog run with long runway.
  • Daily walks in the park and weekly visits to the dog park.
  • Laser pointers, sticks, stuffed animals, clickers and balls of all types and sizes.  🙂
  • We generally like to feed real food, i.e. turkey and veggies and oatmeal and yams and bones rather that dog food, but that could be just because we’ve been fighting allergies.  I will probably try premium dry dog food and see how both work for the new pup before I will commit to anything here.
  • Cat allergy, so no chance of *that* kind of an infestation
  • No kids, only dogs.
  • Couple each ~50 with five very different GSD’s in our past. From a little on the aggressive side to solidly on the shy side. Both are great in their own ways.
  • We work from home and generally drag the dog along when we go out.

Email me with any questions or suggestions.  Pictures would be welcome.  Thank you.

General notes:

Slimy, deflated leather football

Extreme ball drive. We used to throw the football over the crest of the roof or our one story house so that he would have to run around the whole house to retrieve it.

Awesome protection streak. If he heard a suspicious sound, instead of barking by the door, he would come and stand next to you until he was sure the threat was past.

When we took him out in public on the leash, little kids would pop up from all over and hug him generally freaking out their Mom’s because he was a very big dog. He just soaked them in though.

Frisbee, with the outer rim removed, of course.

Although VERY loved by me, she wasn’t the best tempered dog. She was teased by a neighbor’s kid when she was a puppy and never really got over it. She would bite kids if they cornered her at all. I solved this by keeping her away from kids.

Also, when I moved to Seattle, she went from a farm dog to an apartment dog and started barking all day. I solved this by making a friend move from Tampa Florida to Redmond and take the apartment next to us until she got used to things.

She was an awesome player and made everything a game. She also liked to cuddle.

A green snake stuffed dog toy.

Once, when I was still a smoker, I was stuck on the phone and although I had cigarettes, I didn’t have a lighter. There was one about 5 feet out of reach. Pixel watched me try to get it for a while, then got up and picked it up and brought it to me. I swear to god.

That level of smart combined with that level of generosity of spirit is what make up this great dog.

She liked to lay on top of us. Not in any kind of dominance move, but just cuz it was comfortable for her. She would let out long sigh when she had us arranged just right.

Chiwa clip_image008

A plastic bag lure

She was schuzhund 1 and imported from Germany. I was going to use her to really learn about competing GSD’s. But, it was clear that she didn’t like training and didn’t like all the trappings of that, so she became the world’s happiest couch potato.

If you were crying, Chiwa would come to and cuddle to make you feel better. I never found a time limit for her and a petting session. She would play lure and water games with a passion and laser focus. (Although she thought an actual laser was stupid cuz she could see where it came from.)

She was always there for me. She always behaved. She always had this super zest of life.

WATER! As much as possible coming at his face as fast as possible.

And a laser rocked too.

He was a classic case of a shy GSD. He tested that way on the puppy tests, but I really had no idea what that really meant. For him, I always had to keep in mind that I needed to go slow and that he could get overwhelmed and always have an exit ready and that wasn’t true with any of the other GSD’s.

He was a lot like an 8 year old boy in how he liked his attention. It was for his time length and his location, but then he was cuddles to the max. He started out not really caring about being in the room with me, but after a few years we were joined at the hip. 99% of the time we went everywhere together.

Smartest dog ever. He would offer up a thousand things to see which might be rewarded. He learned how to wink and blink and to stomp his mighty foot when he wanted something. He could smile and if that didn’t work, he would throw himself at the ground because nobody could resist the world’s best down.

He had spots in the house that he used to tell us exactly what he wanted and you could tell that he thought us very stupid not to figure this out. His look would clearly say “HEY!!! I’m in the jerky treat spot! What’s wrong with you guys?”

Really liked to play.

  1. I have full blooded GSD almost 4 months, needs room to run, is friendly with kids, and other animals, not fixed. Would settle for 250.00 as we paid alot more. We just don’t have the room for him to run, no fenced yard. We dont want wireless fence.

  3. I have a purebred seven month old gsd puppy. He is playful , loving and full of joy. His name is Tyson and we are looking to sell him. He is our only dog and we have had him since he was six weeks. He is not neutered. He is very well socialized with humans and other dogs he sees on his walks. He loves being around people that love him and children make him happiest. He greets all our neighbors at the gate by our door with a pop up of his head and front paws. Tyson loves being brushed but can be a handfull at bathtime. He is quite big for his age but absolutely adorable!!

  4. I intended to put you a little bit of observation in order
to give many thanks once again for all the striking basics you have discussed at this time.
It’s certainly surprisingly generous of you to give unhampered just what a number of people might have supplied for an electronic book to get some cash on their own, certainly seeing that you could possibly have tried it if you ever decided. These thoughts as well acted to be a great way to be certain that other people have a similar dream the same as my own to realize whole lot more when considering this issue. I believe there are lots of more pleasurable periods up front for individuals who take a look at your website.

    • I recommend the closest Humane Society.

They are trust worthy and put the animal’s needs above everything else. And they are not weird and neither of these things can often be said of private adoption centers.

  7. Cats are one of the most loved pets in the world, no question about it. More than 50% of all households in the United States own dogs and cats. Although cats are loved animals, cat allergies are one of the common forms of allergies. Statistics in the past have shown that over 10 million people in the U.S. alone have allergic reactions to cats – especially their fur. `

  8. we have a 4yo German Shepherd. he is a sweet boy and needs a good home and owners who know how to take care of a GSD. We had to move to an apartment and cannot keep him. email me at geier_m@hotmail.com if interested. We just want our boy happy and having a good life.

  9. Are u still looking for a German Shepherd? I have a wonderful 10 month old that is in need of a home. I have been taking care of her but I am never home and she is boarded a lot. Its not fair to her. She loves people and kids. Awesome girl. I want her to be with a forever family that is always with her. I have to travel for work and she deserves a family that is around.

  10. Still looking? I am in northern WI just a few hours from Chicago. We have a pure no papers GSD very kind and loves kids and people no need for other dogs. He is very good looking. He came from an Amish farm as a puppy to us but our lives have changed and we no longer can have him, His name is Hunter and he does know Russian commands, but he learns fast. he is house broken.

  11. I have a Black German Shepherd that just turned two years old. He was an owner surrender, he was chained outside in the Florida heat and we drove all the way there to pick him up. Since, we’ve had him he’s gained 46 pounds and is now at the weight of 146.7 pounds. He is VERY protective of HIS people. He is not neutered, but I will recommend getting neutered because he does have a problem with other non neutered dogs, but thats with all dogs so. We are re homing him because we are just fostering him until he got better and now he is and he’s ready for his new forever home. His name is Kane, and his re homing fee is $100 to ensure he goes to a good home. He will come with his bed, food, collar, and his toys.
Please contact me if you are still looking for one, and if you are interested. Thank you so very much!!
